Murdoch recorded the majority of Towards the Sun in Vancouver in a single night while on tour in North America in 2009. Revisiting the tracks months later in New York, Murdoch fleshed out the tracks with the help of musicians known for their work in Brooklyn’s independent music scene, including Jon Natchez (Beirut), Kelly Pratt (Beirut) and Kyle Resnick (The National).

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Alexi Murdoch is set to release his second full-length record Towards the Sun March 8th on his own Zero Summer Records. He will celebrate the new release with a sold-out performance at Lincoln Center’s prestigious American Songbook series on February 17 before playing in select U.S. cities in February, including a Noise Pop Festival date in San Francisco. The Away We Go Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which features eight tracks from acclaimed indie singer/songwriter Alexi Murdoch, was released last week on Murdoch's Zero Summer Records, and has since landed at #14 on SoundScan's Soundtrack Chart and is the #5 selling soundtrack on iTunes. Away We Go is the new movie from Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes and first original screenplay from novelists Dave Eggers & Vendela Vida.

Digital track sales for Murdoch's "All My Days," which is not only the track used in the film trailer but also the opening track from his most recent full-length release Time Without Consequence, increased by 119% in its first week and continues to rise. Other artists on the soundtrack include: George Harrison, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground and The Stranglers.

During the filming of Away We Go, Mendes began thinking about the music that would be the sound and soul of the film. When he first heard Alexi Murdoch’s acclaimed debut album, Time Without Consequence, he knew he had found what he was looking for.

A total of eight of Murdoch’s songs are featured in Away We Go which opens, fittingly, with “All My Days,” also the opening track from Time Without Consequence. The song has also been used in its entirety in the movie’s theatrical trailer, which is already creating a buzz about the film’s music.
