Swiss/German female duo BOY will return to North America for a small run of May dates, starting May 13th with a live taping at Boulder’s eTown Hall alongside City And Colour. These dates follow a hugely successful premiere North American tour last month in support of the band’s critically acclaimed debut album, Mutual Friends, featuring infectious single “Little Numbers.”
The ladies of BOY, Swiss-born Valeska Steiner and German-born Sonja Glass, charmed their way across North America last month, starting with a sold-out show at Joe’s Pub. In a live review, Jon Pareles of The New York Times wrote: "BOY writes and sings tuneful, friendly, forthright pop-folk songs about life and relationships...cradled by melodies with a comfortable lilt and by Ms. Steiner’s sweet, unfailingly precise lead vocals…Boy brings a pastry chef’s skill to its music; there’s structure behind the sweetness."

Before they headed back to Hamburg, the ladies of BOY (and touring band member Deniz Erarslan) stopped by the Flavorpill headquarters in NYC for a special session and interactive Q&A with fans. As part of Flavorpill's Sony Sessions with Livestream, the band performed a handful of tracks from their critically-acclaimed debut album Mutual Friends and chatted with fans over the course of 45-minutes. The Swiss/German duo have spent the last month charming audiences across the country as they tour in support of their debut album Mutual Friends. The pair launched theirfirst ever tour of North America on March 1 with a sold-out show at NYC's Joe's Pub, and went on to sell out venues in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, San Diego, two shows in both Chicago and Minneapolis, Philadelphia, DC, Toronto and Montreal. The girls wrap up this hugely successful tour with a final NYC show at the Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night, Friday, March 29th, which is also on track to sell out.
Mutual Friends debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #13, and broke into the Billboard Top 200 in its second week at #179, bringing them up to #5 on Heatseekers. The album remains on the Heatseekrs Chart as infectious single "Little Numbers," which boasts more than 8 million views on YouTube, makes its Triple A Top 30 chart debut this week. BOY has made fans at influential radio stations across the country, appearing in-studio for KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic,"KCMP's "The Current,"WXPN's "World Cafe" and more. Additionally, MTV2 has added BOY and "Little Numbers" to "Artists To Watch."

Hamburg-based duo BOY has finally landed Stateside. The indie pop duo released their debut album Mutual Friendslast week, and today it enters the Billboard Heatseekers Chart at #13, while their infectious single “Little Numbers” is currently featured as the iTunes “Single of the Week” in the U.S. and Canada (Mexico will follow on April 2).
BOY launched their first North American tour last week with a sold-out show at NYC’s Joe’s Pub, followed by a second sold-out show at Brooklyn’s Union Hall, causing the band to add a third New York City date on March 29 at the Bowery Ballroom. The duo will play San Francisco (3/6), Los Angeles (3/8) and San Diego (3/9) before making their way down to Austin for their SXSW debut.
Chosen by NPR Music for inclusion in “The Austin 100” preview (“100 Artists Worth Discovering At SXSW”), BOY’s Austin run begins on Wednesday, March 13 with KCRW Party at the Radio Day Stage (Austin Convention Center), where they share a bill with Jake Bugg and Devendra Banhart. The ladies, who also play Union Hall in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 2 before heading across the country, have just announced they'll be back in New York City to finish this round of dates with a newly added show at the Bowery Ballroom on Friday, March 29. Nettwerk Music Grouphas started off the New Year on a high note, coming off of an exciting 2012 across all facets of the company.
On the management side, the biggest story of the year was fun., who broke out with their smash single “We Are Young feat. Janelle Monae” from sophomore album Some Nights (Fueled by Ramen). The single has gone on to sell over 10.5 million digital copies worldwide and boasts more than 160 million YouTube views, while the album has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The band ended the year with six Grammy® nominations including Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Song of the Year.
Internationally, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Wanting (who is signed to Nettwerk's management, label and publishing rosters) saw her debut album, Everything In The World, explode in and around China, going Triple Platinum in China and Hong Kong and Platinum in Malaysia and Taiwan. Wanting is nominated for 10 Chinese Music Chart Awards (similar to the Grammy Awards), including Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Singer/Songwriter of the Year.
LA-based band Family of the Year, who sits on Nettwerk’s management and label rosters, saw a local buzz early last year grow into full-fledged national acclaim. Their track “Hero” debuted at #28 on the Triple A Chart (now Top 10), leading Billboard Magazine to highlight them in their “Bubbling Under” weekly feature. The band has seen huge licensing success, with tracks featured in the HBO series Girls, a national Advil television commercial, and a major placement in the anticipated film Thanks For Sharing, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo. They ended 2012 with their debut national TV appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly, and a nod from the Huffington Post, which said, "Family of the Year should be going places besides their next tour stop. Label artist Passenger started off 2013 with his latest album, All The Little Lights,achieving its highest chart ranking (#7) on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, where it has appeared for 22 straight weeks and counting. The video for lead single “Let Her Go” exploded on YouTube, gaining 6 million views over two months and bringing the current total to 7 million. In the UK, iTunes named All The Little Lights the “Best Singer/Songwriter Album of 2012.” Passenger’s fan-base grew exponentially after extensive tour dates with Ed Sheeran in the U.S. and Europe, leading to his own sold-out debut headline tour in December. He is currently in the midst of a sold-out UK/European headline run.

BOY is comprised of Swiss-born Valeska Steiner and German-born Sonja Glass (neither of which are boys). The two met serendipitously when they participated in a prestigious music workshop in Hamburg. They immediately bonded over their classical-music training and a mutual love of the French band Phoenix. Before long, they decided to form a band and began writing what would become Mutual Friends.

Mutual Friends is an autobiographical affair, comprised of smart, sharply-observed songs that resonate because they’re about everyday life. The hooks are contagious and the lyrics are straight from the heart. “It's about arrivals and new beginnings,” explains Valeska. “About hopes and dreams and aspirations. We want to make music that's positive and hopeful,” she says. “There is more to music than heartbreak and loss,” agrees Sonja. The album has already achieved Gold status in Germany, where it has sold more than 100,000 copies.
