Alternative Break Tour - Service at the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas March 3

At State Radio's two night sellout this weekend at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., Calling All Crows, the band's service organization, announced their 2010 fundraising campaign to support Sudanese women. In partnership with Oxfam America, State Radio and Calling All Crows have set a goal to raise $100,000 through their Trees, Training, and Donkey Carts initiative. Calling All Crows is asking at least 100 fans to raise $1,000 to provide tree seedlings, vocational skills training and donkey carts to women. More info HERE.

This week, Calling All Crows and State Radio are hosting the first ever Alternative Break Tour: Destination New Orleans! Over March 1-7, 2010, nine service-minded State Radio fans are devoting their spring break traveling by tour bus down South, volunteering with members of the band at local non-profits by day and experiencing State Radio LIVE each night! Boston’s revolution rockers State Radio have announced a summer tour with the John Butler Trio. Pre-sale begins Feb 19 and via ticketing outlets Feb 26 (list of dates below). The band is currently bringing their incendiary rock, punk and reggae to cities all over the country on their winter stint. Other recent tour-mates include 311, Tom Morello’s The Nightwatchman, and a set with Rage Against The Machine at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. 

Says front man Chad Stokes, "We played with John Butler years ago in small clubs holdin' about 100 people and we've kept in touch ever since becoming good friends over the years. Last time we saw him we had a blast at the Blues and Roots Fest in Oz...we are wicked psyched to meet up with him and his band again. It's gonna be a balls to the wall tour!"

Boston trio State Radio has unveiled an epic music video for their punk-fueled song “Knights Of Bostonia,” featuring a battle at a historic fort that dates back to the Revolutionary War, an army of State Radio fans, and a retired Boston Police horse. The track is from the band’s latest release, Let It Go (Ruff Shod Records).

Directed by Andrew Mudge, the video was shot over 3 days in Boston at 11 locations (including the battle scene at the historic Fort Revere) with over 100 extras. Mudge’s work has screened on HBO, Sundance and Discovery. Says the director, “I imagined the band as these sort of rag tag knights, skating through an urban landscape, and then breaking kids free from a school. Chad [Stokes, frontman] and I spent several days together hashing out the story elements, bringing in stuff from our childhood - bows and arrows, running from cops, and horses!"

State Radio fans in Los Angeles got a big surprise last Friday, January 15 when Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello joined the band on stage for the track "Gang Of Theives," which Morello once called his "#1 iTunes jam." Morello and State Radio first hooked up when Morello tracked the band down in 2008 and asked them to join his Justice tour, which focused on social justice through music and local activism.

State Radio is currently on their Winter 2010 "Let It Go: Lefty Rides Again" Tour. Check out the remaining tour dates below. 

State Radio are making a point to stop their shows on their current winter tour to encourage fans to get their cellphones out to text the word OXFAM to 25383 to make a one-time $10 donation to Oxfam’s Haiti Response Fund. State Radio frontman and Calling All Crows co-founder Chad Stokes also created the above video message to further encourage fan involvement.

State Radio frontman and former Dispatch member Chad Stokes took to the stage with “Some Good Friends” this past weekend at Arts at the Armory in Somerville, MA for the second annual Calling All Crows benefit shows. These shows wove together music with a message, celebrating the accomplishments of Calling All Crows’ first year in action, including 600 fans volunteering over 3,000 hours at local service projects across the country and a year long effort from State Radio and their fans to raise $100,000 for Oxfam America’s Darfur Stoves project. The Calling All Crows team (pictured above) presented the check on Saturday night, December 12, to Bob Ferguson of Oxfam America.

“Oxfam America's partnership with State Radio and Calling All Crows on our Darfur Stoves project has been meaningful from day one,” Ferguson remarked. “Like Oxfam, the band and their organization are all about creating partners and activists to help make our globe a better place. Their work on this project will impact 5000 families in Darfur for the better, and proves the motto of Oxfam America's concert outreach program that ‘music can change the world.’”

The donation will provide 5,000 fuel-efficient stoves that will decrease the number of trips Sudanese women need to make away from their refugee camps to collect firewood and, in turn, decrease their risk of becoming victims of rape and assault.

Punk rock trio State Radio announced today a 20-city US tour that kicks off on January 13th in Tucson, AZ. The winter 2010 “Let It Go: Lefty Rides Again” tour marks the band’s first major market tour since the release of Let It Go, which debuted at #96 in the Billboard 200 in October. The band recently wrapped up a 24-city North American tour and are taking a very short break before heading back on the road with 311 on November 22 (full list of tour dates below).

State Radio, who in addition to their hard-hitting live shows are known for their social activism, will continue with their pre-show community service projects via their humanitarian organization, Calling All Crows. Frontman Chad Stokes--who recently became a featured blogger on the Huffington Post’s new section IMPACT--wrote about the potential of musicians to inspire their fans to public service not only with words but also by example.
