William Fitzsimmons To Release 'Lions' (February 18); Listen To "Centralia"

On February 18, William Fitzsimmons will release Lions, his follow-up LP to 2010’s well-received Gold In The Shadow. Produced by Chris Walla (guitarist for Death Cab For Cutie with previous production credits with Tegan and Sara, The Decemberists and The Postal Service among others), Lions is a career-defining album that explores Fitzsimmons’ personal transformation over the last few years.

“The last couple years have been...full (kind of difficult to describe years in a single word). They have been wonderful, painful, long, incredibly brief, and more educational and rewarding than any I've ever lived before. ‘Lions’ is something I'm terribly proud of and utterly connected to,” says Fitzsimmons.

In advance of the album, Fitzsimmons partnered with Paste to reveal an acoustic performance of the first track from the album, called “Centralia.”

Hem's Dan Messé Tapped For Broadway Adaptation Of Academy Award-Nominated Film, 'Amélie'

Four years into the production process, Dan Messé (of NY-based collective Hem) took to the band's Facebook page to announce his involvement in the Broadway adaptation of the beloved and Academy Award-nominated film Amélie.

Given his expertise in the field of composing, it's no surprise that Messé had been commissioned to take on the project. Shortly after Hem completed music for the Public Theatre production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in Central Park, Messé was approached by a team of producers to bring his unique style to their forthcoming project.

Fans of Hem and Amélie will appreciate the new score.  "There's a real osmosis that goes on between the two projects. I think that Hem fans will definitely find a lot to love in this score. And vice versa, Amélie fan will hopefully discover Hem. I hope that new audiences discover the band," says Messé.

In the coming weeks, Hem will be doing a handful of dates to support the release of their fifth full-length album, Departure And Farewell (Available HERE).  Dates below.

The Submarines To Release 'Shoelaces EP' On December 20th

The Submarines - Selections from The Shoelaces EP by nettwerkmusicgroup

Los Angeles duo The SubmarinesBlake Hazard and John Dragonetti—are celebrating the holidays with the release of a new 6-track EP. Out December 20th, the Shoelaces Ep features stripped-down versions of “Shoelaces” and “Fire” (from their latest critically-acclaimed album Love Notes/Letter Bombs), covers of New Order’s “Your Silent Face” and Jesus & Mary Chain’s “Just Like Honey,” and a re-worked and slowed-down version of the band’s most popular track to date, “You, Me And The Bourgeoisie,” recorded at Eagle Rock, CA studio The Ship. For this week only, the full EP is streaming exclusively at

Of the stripped versions of “Shoelaces” and “Fire,” Hazard says, “The original tracks seemed to hatch almost fully formed in the studio, with most of the instrumentation arranged and recorded before the lyrics. After months of touring and sometimes getting to play stripped-down versions of the songs, we really wanted to capture this simpler sound of two people playing in a room together. Going back and sort of reconstructing them felt more intimate and connected--just a very different feel from the big-beat versions.”

The Shoelaces EP is currently available for pre-order in iTunes, with a physical version being sold through the band’s webstore. Fans who purchase the EP through the band’s online store (here) also receive a free pair of Submarines-themed shoelaces (yes, real shoelaces!).
